Leaving Tonawanda early this Thursday morning.

Fuel and bait stop.

Sign directing us left to Buffalo and Lake Erie.

Welcome to the Erie Canal sign, but for us, coming from the East, it was goodbye to the Erie Canal!

Fog rolled in as we cruised the Niagra River to Lake Erie.

Thick fog.

Double bridge.

Another view of the double bridge.

That is Lake Erie and Canada out there.

Pulling up to the last lock of the trip, the first lock not operated by the New York Canal System.

This lock is operated by the Army Corps. Of Engineers.

Bottom of the lock, doors will close behind us in a few minutes. We had to wait until til 8:30, in case any other boats wanted to enter, as these locks do not operate on demand but rather on a schedule every half an hour.

Top of the lock.

Peace Bridge ahead. The trucks on the bridge are coming from Canada into the States and are waiting to pass through customs.

Buffalo City Skyline.

Observation tower as we pulled into Buffalo Harbor.

View of Canada and Lake Erie from the observation tower.

Tying up at our slip for the night.

Our boat was docked within walking distance to the Buffalo Naval and Military park.
Buffalo Naval and Military Park

The park features four decommissioned Naval vessels that served in a variety of military conflicts in our nation’s history including the USS Little Rock, the USS the Sullivans, the USS Croaker, and the PTF-17.

There are also aircraft and a tank on exhibit.

Also within walking distance is The Buffalo Maritime Center. The center has constructed a replica of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief.
The Seneca Chief is the boat Governor DeWitt Clinton took on the inaugural journey from Buffalo to New York City in 1825.
This replica Seneca Chief will be taking that same journey from Buffalo City to New York City beginning on September 24, 2025, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Erie Canal.

The exhibit next to the Seneca Chief shows the elevation change on the Erie Canal from Lake Erie to Albany.

We rented a car to do a little sight seeing. Buffalo City skyline.

Headed to Niagra Falls.

Celebrating the end of the trip at the pool! After we explored with the rental car, Than had to drive back to Albany to get the truck and boat trailer. He will meet us back at the hotel in the morning (Friday).
