Spent the night at Lock 7, up early to cook breakfast on board and get ready for the first lock experience.

Lock 8 completed (no picture at this lock).
Lock 9-time lapse video. At each lock the boys have to grab lines. Asbury takes the bow line, Auggie takes the stern line. They have to hold the boat secure as the water rises and lifts us up. Once we are lifted, the gates in front open to let us out at the higher elevation. Job we’ll done by both boys!

Lock 13 complete.Shortly after Lock 13, we saw a rest area for both cars and boats. Herkimer Home-another piece of history to learn more about!Last stop of Saturday: Lock 17Lock 17 is the largest lift on the Erie Canal, 40 feet! This lock’s gates do not swing open, rather the gate lifts up and boats go under the lifted gate to enter.
